How to Listen to my TV with Headphones
We usually watch TV with our family and friends. Watching our favorite TV shows or movies with our loved ones, make the experience more fun and worthwhile. However, there are also several instances wherein we want to the TV for ourselves. Moreover, there are also some moments where we don’t want to disturb other people when they want peace.
However, to do this; we need to set the volume to a shallow level, sometimes even setting the audio to mute. Thankfully, you can always watch our favorite shows or movies without disturbing other people by using listening devices such as headphones.
Surprisingly, not all people are equipped with the knowledge of connecting headphones to the TV. In this article, we will answer a question that might have lingered on your mind, “how to listen to my tv with headphones?” We usually use headphones when listening to music through mobile or audio devices, but apparently; you can also use them to connect to your TV. So without further ado, here are some of the methods to connect your headphones to the TV.
Ways to Connect Headphones to TV
1. Wired Connection
One of the simplest and easiest ways to connect the headphones to the TV is via the wired route. However, wired headphones do not give you a convenient and comfortable way of watching your TV. This is because wired headphones have a limited range, needing you to sit or stand near the TV unit. If your TV is equipped with a 3.5 mm headphone jack, then you can easily plug in your wired headset. Some TV units also have RCA stereo outputs instead of headphone jacks. With this at hand, you need to use a 3.5 mm headphone adapter so that you can connect it to the TV.
The major caveat of making a wired connection when watching TV is the inconvenience of having to stay close to the TV. Moreover, you have to be extra careful not to accidentally pull the headphone from the jack or trip over it. Because of this, we hardly recommend wired headphones when watching TV. Thankfully, there are still some other methods that you can use to watch TV more conveniently and straightforwardly.
2. Using Bluetooth Headphones
Instead of using a wired connection, you can also use Bluetooth headphones. However, to do this, you need to be equipped with a smart TV that has Bluetooth capability or a media streamer that allows you to connect Bluetooth enabled devices such as game consoles and headphones. With this, you need not go through all the hassle of standing close to the TV or be worried about tripping over the wires. With this method, you get to enjoy the luxury of sitting at a distance that is convenient for you. However, you also need to consider the Bluetooth range of both the headphone and the smart TV or media streamer.
To connect your Bluetooth, wireless headphones to the smart TV or media streamer, you need to go to the settings of the TV or streaming device. The setting locations might be different, but it will be somewhat similar across these devices. In the settings menu, look for the settings for the Remote devices and accessories. In here, you need to click on the add button so that you can include the Bluetooth headphone to the connected devices. Wait for the headphone and the TV or media streamer to pair up completely. After the pairing process, you can now watch TV and listen through your wireless headphones at a distance that is comfortable for you.
3. Roku Headphones
As mentioned above, media streaming devices also allow users to watch TV and listen to the audio through Bluetooth headphones. However, media streamers such as those from the company Roku will enable this method without the use of Bluetooth connection. Roku’s media streamers can transmit audio through a feature they call Private Listening. Through this, you can stream audio from the source such as a TV to a smartphone via the Roku app.
To use this method, you need first to have the Roku media streamer. After this, you need to install the Roku application on your smartphone where you intend to listen to the audio stream. Once the app is already connected to the TV or media streamer, you only need to plug in your wired headphones to the smartphone where it is connected, and you are good to go.
In addition to this, some Roku devices and Roku TVs can stream audio from the TV without the use of media streamers or smartphones. All you need is the Roku remote that has a headphone jack. Connect the wired headphones to the headphone jack of the remote, and you can now use the Private Listening feature of Roku. This feature, though is exclusive for high-end Roku models.
4. Bluetooth Transmitter
The last method makes use of the principles mentioned above. If the TV you have does not have features such as Private Listening or Bluetooth connectivity, you might be wondering how you can connect to a headphone without the wired route. Thankfully, there are Bluetooth transmitters that make this possible. These devices are inexpensive and are very easy to use. You need to connect the Bluetooth transmitter to the back of the TV and with this, you can now transmit the audio from your TV to any Bluetooth wireless headphone.
You will be pleased to know that there are many Bluetooth transmitters available in the market. However, not all of these transmitters can work seamlessly with all TVs. Cheaper wires opt for a 3.5 mm headphone jack connection. While these transmitters can do the job, the quality of sound that comes out of it is not very good.
With this, we highly recommend Bluetooth transmitters that have an optical audio input. These types of transmitters can churn out the better sound with crisp detail.
So there you have it, those are the different methods of listening to the audio streaming from your TV through a headphone. We all know that we can connect the wired headphone to the audio jack of the TV, but you might want to consider the other methods as they offer better flexibility and comfort.
